Admission Requirements
Candidates must submit a copy of their Secondary School Diploma (OSSD, GED, or better), if this is not available they will be required to pass the Scholastic Level Exam (SLE).
Program Outline
Microsoft Office Level 1 & Level 2
This module will provide students with an overview of computer applications, the Windows operating system and the Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Students will develop the professional skills needed in the modern business world through a series of projects and simulations in an interactive digital environment. The Level 2 module will continue to focus on the Microsoft Office Suite with an emphasis on Excel and its applications in business accounting.
Business Communications & Interpersonal Skills
This module will provide students the tools to develop business English and interpersonal communication skills necessary to function in the modern business setting. In addition, this module provides a review of English grammar, sentence structure and punctuation as they apply to business communications. Students will develop effective interpersonal communication skills for managing personal and working relationships. The importance of diversity inclusion and teamwork will also be explored.
Accounting Concepts & Manual Bookkeeping
Students are introduced to fundamental accounting concepts and principles, including GAAP, the Accounting Cycle, Accounting Information Systems and Financial Statements. Students will learn to record business transactions in journals and prepare bank reconciliations. In addition, they will learn about the GL, AR, AP, INV and Payroll modules, assets and liabilities, managing cash, receivables, payables, inventory and payroll.
Payroll Fundamentals & Legislation
Students will learn how to apply payroll legislation and calculate individual pay. All components of individual pay are included, from remuneration, through deductions, to net pay for both regular and non-regular situations. Students will also gain the knowledge and skills to effectively communicate all aspects of the individual pay calculation process to external and internal stakeholders. Students will also learn how to complete Records of Employment.
Sage 50 Accounting
Students will learn about Canada’s number one computerized accounting software system, Sage. Emphasis will be placed upon installing and configuring Sage Accounting and setting up the GL, AR, AP, INV & Payroll. All ledgers and journals, including how to save and back up the books. Preparation for the Sage certification exams is included throughout this module.
QuickBooks
This module will provide students with an overview of QuickBooks features with emphasis on the four core accounting modules, GL, AR, AP and INV, and the payroll module. In addition, they will learn how to configure a complete set of books within the QuickBooks environment.
Job Search, Interview Skills & Resume Writing
This module will provide students with the skills to prepare for employment. In addition, they’ll learn how to research employment opportunities within their field of study. Some of the topics included are the preparation of a resume, and cover letters, developing interview skills and how to search for employment.
This program is approved as a vocational program under the Private Career College Act, 2005.
